Niche Marketing Is Like A Full Flavored Reduction Sauce

I remember going to a friend’s house in Tampa, Florida a few years back and experiencing a homemade reduction sauce for the first time. The guy was/is a gourmet self-taught “cook”, and the whole meal was great. But I couldn’t forget the reduction sauce. I had never really paid attention to how chefs take ingredients and “reduce” them over a low heat until only the very best remains.

Now, reducing ingredients means they won’t go as far (in other words there won’t be as much to go around and fewer people can partake) but what is there is so full of flavor you feel privileged to get some…especially if it’s “your taste”.

This is very much the same principle as niche marketing. You create a product (or affiliate with a product) that maybe only a select few will love…but…they love it. So they buy it. In fact, they were looking for it. And you had it ready and waiting for them. Then, when they come “into the kitchen” (your online niche site), and they catch the aroma of your creative copy for the “sauce”, they know they’re in the right place. And they lay their money down to get a taste. The yum factor is high, and you’re serving all day.

Why do I say creative copy? Well, let me ask you this…how many sites do you view while “surfing” that just blow your socks off? What did it? Was it the fact that they have an “about us” page? Probably not. I know…it was the testimonials page. Right? ‘Cause virtually no one has one of those. Or maybe you loved their “site map”. Yeah…that could happen.

No…it was something creative.

And I say creative copy for a couple of reasons.

  • It’s not the same ol’ same ol’…
  • And it stretches the imagination to put the viewer in the starring role

There’s an up-and-coming search engine that proves this point….YouTube. Yep. YouTube is now a search engine. In fact, by some accounts…the number two search engine…behind Google. And Google owns YouTube. So process that info as you see fit.

How does it prove my point? Thanks for asking. The best videos on YouTube (not the goofiest or zaniest or stupidest) are using creative copy. It could be just the way the person in the video is talking. Or it could be the graphics they use. But they’re saying something in a creative way to keep you engaged. They’re making the words come alive with movement. And the best ones are targeting a niche…a select few…and the niche loves it.

So, take this information however you’d like. If you’re using another technique successfully, don’t mind me. Keep up the good work. I’m just talking about something I’ve been observing as a trend…not a fad. And when you think about what has stayed in the minds of the buying public for all the years of radio and TV advertising…

It’s always been creative copy for a particular audience…mmm mmm good. Niche marketing is—Reduction sauce.

Stay tuned,

Have you ever looked at a city map for a place you’ll be going…then commit that “scene” to memory?

Your brain has the power to do that. Whether you use this ability or not, it’s there. It’s like when I say (or in this case–write) the words “black cow with white spots”. In your mind you’re not seeing the words I just typed. You see the actual animal. Words are magically and instantaneously transformed from letters on a page to images in our mind.

I think that’s one of the coolest parts of being a thinking and reasoning being. When I was in about the 4th grade, I remember a favorite teacher of mine telling the class we could go anywhere if we’d just read books. She explained the flights of fancy we could take in our minds just by envisioning the author’s words in our heads. I took it to heart, and I’ve never lost that desire and wonder for imaginations and mental travels around the universe.

These same techniques can be used to market products, and that’s why I call my writing service “Creative Copy”. Marketing has progressed from a strong presentation of the essential facts to a tug on the heart strings and vying for your best mental images…perfect for creative copy and a creative copywriter.

It’s not a matter of “long copy” versus “short copy” either. It always comes down to “good copy” which achieves results. Your business is different from other businesses, and it will attract different customers and clients than other businesses. So…

What’s right for another business who just hired a copywriter who “knocked one out of the park” might just be a total flop for you. And that’s one of the reasons I suggest looking seriously at creative copy. It’s not “thinking outside the box” stuff. It’s writing that says “maybe there ain’t no box”…or…maybe a box would be perfect for this project. See what I mean?

You’re an individual.

I write to show off your individuality as well as the benefits of your products or services. So; sometimes coloring inside the lines is a great idea…sometimes it’s all wrong. Sometimes the assembly line approach is gonna be rejected…sometimes it’ll be the only thing to work. But it’s how you say it that counts. It’s all about the word pictures you can conjure up in the minds of your audience. Here’s to glorious images of open pockets, purses, and billfolds spilling money into your bank account.

An here’s a reading test that reveals a lot about our complex brains. Hope you enjoy it. I did.

No more leaning on the government.

Who do you think cares more about your life? And the life of your family? You? Or the government?

I bet you were able to answer that question much faster than I was able to ask it. You know who cares more…YOU! So stop leaning on the government for assistance of any kind. We all need to work harder and smarter to see to our own prosperity. And we need to learn the difference between sharing and stealing. Huh?!

Yep…

Even if a majority says it’s OK to steal (tax) from me to give to someone else, that doesn’t make it right. When the government gives it a benevolent sounding name, they’re just using their own “putting lipstick on a pig” tactic. And keep this in mind…”the government” isn’t a spiritual entity. It’s made up of people. People who can’t even figure out how to keep water systems safe…much less how to distribute wealth fairly.

Don’t thirst for a bail out…

Consider this: Ana Navas-Acien, MD, PhD, assistant professor and researcher at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University and her team of collaborators analyzed data from 788 adults age 20 and older. Their urine was tested for traces of this toxin. They found…

  • Participants with type 2 diabetes had a 26% higher arsenic level than people who did not have the disease.
  • Those with the highest levels of arsenic were more than three times as likely to have diabetes than those with the lowest levels. Drinking water can be contaminated with arsenic in some mining areas and in areas with inappropriate arsenic waste disposal… also, air pollution can be an additional source of arsenic exposure in certain areas.

Just think how much more efficient and effective our country would be if taxes were used to keep the utilities infrastructure safe from pollutants and poisons. And if our tax dollars were used to keep bridges safe…and roads safe and smooth, and night lights shining, and a military with state-of-the-art equipment to defend us against all aggression. Personally I’d be thrilled to pay taxes for that. And it could all be done for approximately 5% of each person’s earnings. Amazing huh?

But…

A government who takes my money and gives it to corporate idiots who’ve run their businesses into the ground? No.
A government who takes my money and gives it to bankers and insurance company owners who’ve squandered their assets? No.
A government who takes my money and gives it to people who won’t work, or others who spend it on abortions, or others who spend it on athletic shoes, or flat screen TV’s, or satellite radio and mp3 players for their cars…No, No, No, and No.

Those things cause envy, bitterness, and resentment. Like a famous TV doc says “how’s that workin’ for ya?”

This isn’t a partisan rant. I’m not a Re-publican or a Demo(lish)crat. I’m not a Liber(scare)ian or a blind and foolish anarchist. I’m just a small business owner who’s tired of having his money stolen and given to others by politicians playing Robin Hood to buy votes. It’s wrong (and it always will be) to take from one to give to another. That’s not charity…it’s thievery.

Your personal economy is where you should be focusing. And we all need to open our eyes to the lies and deception of thinking anyone in Washington D.C. gives a good hoot about how we feel. They only care about how much they can get away with. Their never-ending tax and spend agendas prove it year after year.

If you’re a small business owner, and you want to build your business in spite of the doom-and-gloomers, I want to help you. I believe in you…the worker, the entrepreneur, the risk-taker, the dream builder. And I don’t believe that spirit can be held down for long unless we just give in. Never, ever, ever, never, never, never, ever, ever, ever give up.

Stay tuned…and stay strong,
