Is It All About YOU?

Have you had a night where you just couldn’t sleep? So you got up, went into the living room, turned on the TV, laid on the couch, and watched infomercials. Right? I mean; unless you have some premium movie channel (which we don’t because the description is an oxymoron) you won’t get much on TV at 2:00 a.m.

Have you ever noticed how many of those infomercials are about fitness and health related products? It’s a gigantimongous industry. People want to look like models, never get sick, and live forever…or at least a really long time. And they want to look the same until they die. As a culture we’re overweight, overfed, undernourished, out of shape, lacking hope, and just plain burnt out.

That’s a shame. But the worst part is…we think the solution must be complicated. We think it must be in the right combination of diet products, or vitamins, or exercise gurus.

(obnoxious buzzer sound inserted here) Wrong!

It’s none of those things. And it’s not complicated. Oh sure, we can make it complicated, and if you need to wrap your brain around some big words like phytonutrients or hyluronic or mass-spectrographic-isotonic-double-biothermal-diophonoscope, then let’s get to it. But if you prefer to follow the K.I.S.S. formula (keep it super simple), I’ve got good news for you. It really is simple.

You know what causes 99% of obesity and other overweight conditions? An old-fashioned word…gluttony. You know what else makes sure you stay that way? Another old-fashioned word…slothfulness. I know…I know…it sounds so harsh. Sorry, but it’s true.

Now those words just mean you’re putting too much in and you’re not burning enough off.

I’ve got a “super simple” acronym to remember to get you started on the road to realization about the weight problem you may be experiencing. I’ll share that with you in another article in this series. First, though, I want to also talk about a couple of the other related potential problems. For instance, you may not realize how food is only one of the culprits in the battle of the bulges.

That’s right…much of the fluids you put into your body dramatically add to the weight problems. Right about now you’re thinking…OK, he’s gonna tell me to stop drinking colas. Well, actually I’m not. Sure; it would be a great idea for you to stop drinking them altogether, but even if you can reduce your intake, you can see excellent results. However; there’s a ton of evidence that shows how you ought to completely stop drinking diet drinks. Unless you enjoy ingesting the equivalent of rat poison anyway.

Truth Or Scare

Wow…could that possibly be true? Don’t take my word for it. I’m just a guy who reads about this stuff, and the evidence is startling and massive. Just “Google” the term “diet drinks” or “diet drinks” + health. It only stands to reason when you take something natural, like sugar, and replace it with “flavorings” like aspartame and others, something’s gotta give. And it’s usually the notches in your belt. It can also be lesions on your brain, though, and you really don’t want those.

Well, that’s enough to process right now. Believe me when I tell you, if you’re overweight, in almost every case…it’s your fault. And no “diet” is gonna help without you wrapping your mind around that and taking responsibility for your own health. In fact, in almost all cases, you don’t need a diet. You need a healthy lifestyle. Read other articles of mine to learn more about that. I’m not a doctor, and I don’t play one on TV. I’m just a guy who cares about my fellow human beings. Let’s stay well and live longer.

Stay tuned,

Pinpoint Listening

There’s an exercise I’ve followed every so often throughout my adult life. It’s what I call pinpoint listening.

Maybe you’ve done this, too. You stop doing whatever you’re doing where ever you are and see how many different sounds you can identify. It’s an excellent exercise in focusing your ability to hear and remember what you heard. And it increases your powers of observance. You can do this with visuals, too, but for the purpose of this post I’m sticking with sound.

Why do I bring it up?

Well, I’ve observed something I find very unsettling. Many, if not most, people I interact with on a regular basis don’t listen very well. It doesn’t seem to bother the ones who do this, but I think it’s totally counterproductive.

I once heard it said “when your mouth is open, you aren’t learning anything new.” And I think it’s important to learn from others even if you don’t think they’re as interesting, smart, or successful as you. You can learn from a total idiot. At the very least you can learn how not to be a total idiot or that you certainly don’t want to be a total idiot. Another thing you can learn by listening is this…

People are very similar.

Yeah, it’s true. They may believe they’re completely unique or mystifying, or eccentric. But most people are similar. They just have different likes and dislikes. Like for instance…a lot of people don’t mind a group of people all talking at the same time and stomping on top of each other’s words. I do. I find it distracting and annoying. Now, you may be saying, “Tony…you’re really going on a rant. Chill out, dude.”

I don’t mean it to sound that way, but I do want to get the point across. Listening is good. Not merely hearing, but listening.

I realize some people will take advantage of your willingness to listen and never shut up, but it’s worth the hassle. And it even ties in with business. Can you imagine the difference it would make to a potential customer or client if you listened closely enough to remember their birthday? Then you send a card when every other business person forgets. Where will you be in that client’s mind?

You got it.

We live in a very hectic time of life, and people think they don’t have time to listen. Don’t buy into that misinformation. Your fellow human is worth listening to. You may have a chance to make a difference based on what you hear. And you may just need or want the same respect given to you some time.

I can guarantee this without guilt, shame, or a sense of superiority…I’m one of the best listeners you’ll encounter. Try me and see. If you have a marketing project, and you could use a creative copywriter who’ll listen and work to increase your business, contact me. Could I Be More Optimistic?

Short answer…no.

Long answer=

I gotta tell you there are so many great tools for marketing online now. I’ve been immersing myself in some new things, and they’ll help me in my niche more than I can even know at this time.

Is your business getting all the traffic you’d like? If you’re getting plenty of traffic, is it targeted? Or are you finding a lot of “tire kickers” who are just looking for your free stuff? While it’s great to have a crowd on your site, it’s even better to have customers and clients. After all you’re online to make money. Right? If not, you either just want to share your life’s experiences for fun, or you don’t know what’s available.

The social media marketing possibilities are almost endless. I’m gonna try and highlight a few in upcoming posts. Right now I’ve gotta go get some more info flowing into my head.

Stay tuned,

Subscribe to email updates over there on the right, and you’ll get the info before everyone else. You could also get some of the cool “free stuff” I mentioned earlier.
