Web Copy Is Getting More And More Important

It’s a good idea to keep up with technology. Not all technology, but at least the tech important to your business or company or life.

In case you haven’t noticed…things are changing extremely fast, and if you don’t keep up, you could find yourself wondering what planet you landed on in a decade or two from now. I had a chance to stumble upon this video, and it really drives home a lot of points about life, technology, worldviews, and more.

Watch the video and you’ll see why it’s important to work with people who understand more than just internet marketing, advertising, or cool website design and layout.

See if you can pick up on the underlying messages…

Update: 3/17/2009…You don’t need to re-subscribe. Everything transferred nicely and all my readers still show up in my blog database. Thanks for being there, and I’ll talk to you again, soon.

Tony

If you’ve subscribed to my Web Copy Specialist blog, and you can still read this, you may need to re-subscribe. My site seems to be one of a few that didn’t make a slick transition from Feedburner to Google.

I think I may be losing my entire list, but if you receive this link in your email, please come back to www.tonywrites.com and hit the subscribe button. I’d like to keep you around.

Thanks for your understanding…

Yes…and that’s my final answer, Regis.

When it comes to being a writer for the “web”, the question can still come up. Should I be a specialist or a generalist? My enthusiastic answer is found above.

Internet copywriting is somewhat different from offline or direct marketing, but there’s a wide range of sub categories in both. If you write for the web, you could specialize in SEO or article/content…or you could highlight your email marketing skills. You could also advertise yourself as a script writer for the new wave of video that’s here and growing.

I’m just gettin’ started. There are so many different “little” potential markets within markets. And there’s a good chance you could make a good living in any one of them…providing you can establish yourself as the go-to authority for that particular copy niche. I have a different perspective (as you might imagine since I’m writing this post online), and it’s simply this…

You can be a web copy specialist and be a writing generalist.

How? Simple. Gear your writing style to the online world. It ebbs and flows, and it’s fun to watch the integration of new technologies. You can talk/write…or write like you’d talk to someone in person (as long as you leave out all the “like” and “uh” fillers), and you’re right at home on the web. Talk tech or social media, and you’re on the cusp of the internet lingo.

Here’s another link in my generalist chain…the different needs for internet writing don’t have to differ all that much because people expect the web to be different. They want it to be all about the immediacy. Give it to them in their web pages, their emails, their audio and video scripts, and tie it all together for your client’s excellent internet brand.

You don’t have to follow my advice, of course, (and in a way…I hope you don’t…it means more for me) however I’m confident if you do, you’ll find yourself sought after instead of constantly digging for $10 article work.

Stay tuned,
