Build trust and build business

What’s the one thing your business needs to avoid failure?

Is it…

  • great customer service?
  • Great products?
  • On time delivery?
  • Creativity?
  • Outside-the-box thinking?
  • All of the above?
  • None of the above?

If your answer was “none of the above”, give yourself a gold star and go to the head of the class. All of those things are essential for a successful business, but you can have all those things and still fail for lack of one thing…

People
(translate that into customers or clients or patrons or whatever applies)

If you pride yourself on great customer service, but there aren’t any customers to serve…
If you have the greatest products, but no one to sell them to…
If your delivery time is second-to-none, but there’s no where to go…
You fail.

And even if you’re the most creative-outside-the-box thinker and strategist, but you don’t have “people” in the mix…game over.

With all the hype on the internet and all the get rich plans and schemes available in the world, you’d think just about everybody would be a millionaire by now. Wouldn’t you? You probably already know why those plans don’t pan out. Because we don’t trust ‘em…which is just good judgement.

No…when it comes to building wealth or building a business or even building a building, the old story of the tortoise and the hare still holds true. Slow and steady wins the race. It’s not glamorous. It’s not “sexy”. It’s not thrilling. It just works. Why?

Because slow and steady builds trust. And if you’re in business for “the long haul”, you must build trust. It’s not an option because nowadays your customers or clients have tons of options. You don’t want them to pick one of those other options and drive away, or click away. And if you build the trust they need, they won’t.

How do you build trust in this world of hype and flash?

First…get in front of the right people. Guys who buy flies for fly fishing aren’t interested in your latest threads for cross stitching. Ladies who buy designer shoes don’t care how good you sing da blues.

Once you’ve found your people, find out what they want, and give it to them. And be the best possible choice. And be there for them with information, free help, access to resources, and all the other options they’ll be looking for. You be their source, their guide, the one place they place their trust.

Bingo…you’re building trust…like a real person (or business) with real people who need what you have. Then…don’t stop. Show them you’re not just trying to sell them something, but that you’ll be there for them day in / day out. Slow and steady…win your race.

Stay tuned,
