I have a pickup I bought a long time ago. Bought it brand new. And I’ve kept it for a long time. And when I say long time, I mean about 4 to 6 times longer than just about anybody you’ll see anywhere. No exaggeration. But the pickup still runs great. And it’s almost like an old style coming back into vogue, after all these years, with the younger set. In fact, I’ve been told, by a lot of twenty and thirty somethings, that they’d like to buy it. Yeah, I guess Ol’ Blue (my pickup) is at least a little bit evergreen.
But it’s not evergreen because it’s the latest, greatest.
No, the true attraction is how my little Toyota pickup keeps zippin’ along. Decades after it was built over in Japan. And the younger set have told me how it reminds them of their “Dad’s old Toyota pickup.” Or it reminds them of some other family’s pickup who gave them a ride to school.
Yeah, the older stuff, that keeps going, preserves and nurtures connection.
And nostalgia is a powerful force. Whether you hold on to older keepsakes or not, you can’t deny the power of the nostalgia connection. If you dare to disagree, I’ll just point you to the latest versions of some classic American automobiles.
Like the Thunderbird. Or Camaro. The new Bronco. And how about the Volkswagen Beetle, Dodge Challenger, and Mini Cooper?
Or, to take things back to my industry. How many people know the Ba Da Ba Ba Ba 🎶? Yeah, I know you’re lovin’ it. And that jingle’s been around quite a while now.
Sound works. You can’t get it out of your head even when you try. So, it works. And you might say…or at least I’d say…sound is evergreen.
And a client of mine said it, too…
“Tony wrote, produced, sang, and recorded a jingle for our company quite a long time ago, but we still use it today because it’s upbeat and embodies our brand. His jingle is used as our music/message on hold. Often callers comment on how fun and catchy the jingle is. Thanks Tony for developing something that has worked so well for so long.”
~Randy Pickering – Pickering Auto Repair
And I can testify to what Randy said. I’ve called his shop to schedule a repair, been put on hold, and boom! I got to listen to me singin’ his brand song.
So, none of this might mean anything to you. But then again, maybe you’re lookin’ for a way to stand out in the noisy world of advertising and marketing. You could try yelling.
